Dear Reader,
Last weekend, my youth group had our socially distant Discipleship Now weekend. It was a great time of fellowship and I learned so much.
Due to the coronavirus, we couldn’t sing, so as we did at Youth Camp, we took some time for devotionals and visual worship.
On Saturday night, I painted an analogy that my third grade AWANA teacher told me.
It now hangs, over my bed, where Jesus’ hand reaching out to Peter used to be.
The analogy came about when the teacher was explaining the word grace to the class.
Basically, the island on the left side of the picture is us. The island on the right side of the picture is God.
The islands are far apart – for artistic purposes the don’t actually look far apart in the painting but you get the idea – separated by a stormy sea.
No one can cross the sea. It is too far and too dangerous.
Just as the islands are separated by the sea, so we are separated by our sin.
Just as the distance can not be crossed, so the chasm between us and God can not be crossed.
Not without a bridge.
That bridge is Jesus’ grace, demonstrated on the cross.
This is an analogy that has stuck with me ever since third grade. It helped me to see the gospel in a different way.
I hope it encourages you, too.
Thanks for reading, friend! Jesus loves you!
Yours,
Elizabeth Anne
