Summary:
“Are you a gifted child looking for special opportunities?”
Dozens of children respond to a newspaper ad, inviting them to take a test, and earn special opportunities, but only four will pass.
Now they must find a way to put aside their difference to complete their mission and save the world.
What I Loved:
The characters and their relationships with one another were unique and relatable. I loved how the author presented the theme of friendship in The Mysterious Benedict Society.
I also loved the twists, and “big reveal”s throughout the story. The Mysterious Benedict Society was imaginative and enjoyable from start to finish and I couldn’t put it down!
Also, the puzzles were so much fun! I cracked the code before the characters did (once)!
What I Didn’t Love:
While I loved the twists in Mysterious Benedict Society, a few of them were a little on the confusing side and were presented almost out of nowhere.
Quotes:
“You must remember, family is often born of blood, but it doesn’t depend on blood. Nor is it exclusive of friendship. Family members can be your best friends, you know. And best friends, whether or not they are related to you, can be your family.”
“What is life without laughter?”
“For every exit, there is also an entrance.”
Goodreads Rating:
4.5 / 5 stars
