When you draw a picture you are illustrating an idea, whether you realize it or not.
Whatever the idea you illustrate, you are making a statement with your drawing. You are saying, “This matters to me,” or “Here’s what I think”.
As an artist, you have a unique opportunity to use your voice and speak out against racism.
Racism and discrimination divide us. They break us down. You can use your craft to unite people. Be it through an essay, a poem, or a painting, your art can create change.
Sometimes it feels like you are only a drop in an ocean of voices and no one hears yours. Like no matter how hard you try, nothing you do is actually doing something.
I get it. I’ve felt like that too. But change is change.
And there is someone out there who may see your painting, or read your essay, and see things in a new way.
I believe in you, artist. Together, let’s use our art to promote racial equality.
