Dear Reader,
Equality and equity start with representation. Here are some of my favorite books by Asian Authors.
(1) Forest of Wonders (Wing & Claw #1) by Linda Sue Park
I love everything by Linda Sue Park, but especially her Wing & Claw series. The adorable animals and heartwarming characters who fight for what’s right made it one of my favorite book series.
(2) Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin
This book really surprised me. I loved the plot twists and the characters were very endearing. It had a lot of aspects from Chinese folklore, which I found very interesting. The themes were beautiful and simple, yet so powerful.
(3) In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson by Bette Bao Lord
This one was simply hilarious. I loved following Shirley Temple’s journey and learning about what it’s like to be an immigrant in America.
(4) Farewell to Manzanar by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston, James D. Houston
Farewell to Manzanar is an intimate look at life in a Japenese internment camp and life after living in such cruel conditions. This memoir will make you think about history in a new perspective.
(5) Year of Impossible Goodbyes by Sook Nyul Choi
Fair warning: this one will break your heart. Year of Impossible Goodbyes taught me a lot about life in Korea during WWII and the Korean War. I was inspired by the courage of Sookan and her family.
Thanks for reading, friend!
Yours,
Elizabeth Anne
