I finally finished reading the sequel to Skyhunter by Marie Lu! It was totally worth the wait and I’m so excited to share my thoughts with you.
Summary:
*don’t read this part if you haven’t finished the first book*
Talin, now a Steelstriker, is held captive by the premier and forced to betray her Striker friends. However, they haven’t given up on her or on Mara’s future as a free country. They work together to rescue each other and bring the Karensa Federation to an end.
What I Loved:
This book had Red as a POV character, and I loved reading from his perspective. His personality really showed through in the narration. I actually liked his chapters better than Talin’s.
I love reading books where there is a lot of angst and relational tension. And there was A LOT of that in Steelstriker. It was so fun to read! Plus, Red and Talin are literally the cutest couple I’ve read in a while.
The pacing was better in this book. There was so much suspense throughout the whole book and I enjoyed reading the action sequences.
Like the first book, Steelstriker explored themes about immigration, racism, freedom, and friendship.
What I Didn’t Love:
Two side characters who died had little development and I didn’t really care that they died – other than the fact that the main characters were sad. It felt too convenient especially since two of the main characters could have died in that scene too. I wish the author had either given them more character development before killing them off.
Quotes:
That’s the thing about evil. You don’t need to be it to do it. It doesn’t have to consume all of you. It can be small. All you have to do is let it exist
You live life, certain it will always stay this way, until it doesn’t.
Have you read Steelstriker or any of Marie Lu’s other books? I would love to hear from you in the comments section. <33
