My family and I recently visited the Scholastic Warehouse Sale in El Paso. We’ve been lucky enough to have it in driving range and have made it a tradition to go during Christmas break and at the end of the school year.
It was hard, at first, to find books because several of them looked like they would be too easy or mature. Soon, though, I found what I was looking for.
The first book I chose was Refugee by Alan Gratz. I chose this book partly because it reminded me of one of my favorite books, Echo. Refugee, like Echo, is about three young children from different times and places, whose destinies are connected. In Refugee, each of the children must escape and find refuge in a time of war.
The Greatest Treasure Hunt Ever by Robert M. Edsel was the second book I found and is the young reader’s edition of Monument Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History.
Another book that I got is Forest of Wonders (Wing and Claw #1) by Linda Sue Park. Forest of Wonders is a fantasy (my favorite genre!) about apothecary magic, a young boy, and a peculiar bat.
The last book I chose, The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, is actually an adult book which my mom had read a while back. I found it on the way to the checkout. After reading the back cover, I was hooked, and almost immediately switched out a book that I had already chosen for this one. The Nightingale is about a French woman living during WWII.
I am very excited to read all of these new books and can’t wait to get started on them!
Have you read any of these books? Which book do you think I should read first? Have you been to a Scholastic Warehouse Sale, yet? Let me know in the comments section below and I’ll reply as soon as possible.
Thanks!
