Some of the best writing advice I’ve yet received came from my writing teacher’s daughter, who was teaching that week. I don’t remember her exact words, but it went something like this:
Don’t worry too much about whether or not your writing has been done before. Criticism has been done before.
I wish I had paid more attention, but I guess the gist of what she was saying is “We worry so much about whether someone has already written what we’re writing, but criticism has been done before and people are STILL criticizing each other.”
Check out this quote by C.S. Lewis:
Don’t waste time worrying over whether your writing has been done before, just write it! Open up your computer (or pull out a piece of paper) and get it down.
What you have to say is important, whether it’s been done before or not.
