Taylor Swift’s newest album, Midnights, came out yesterday and I am so excited to share my thoughts on it with all of ya’ll.
Midnight EST is six in the morning here, so I got up at six to listen to it. I don’t wake up that early lately but Lavender Haze definitely woke me up. I’m not sure what I was expecting but the sound really suprised me.
Every song on this album is unique from the others. There are various themes – self loathing, revenge, love, and longing. Each song has a different sound and mood too, so no matter the occasion, there is a Midnights song to fit it.
After the first listen, my favorites were You’re on Your Own, Kid, Anti-Hero, and Labyrinth.
Labyrinth feels like a comfort song…one of those songs you listen to in the middle of the night when you can’t sleep or play on repeat when you’re stressed. I chose You’re on Your Own, Kid as a favorite because it is about growing up, which resonates with me as a high school senior.
After a few more listens, Mastermind has replaced Anti-Hero. Although I appreciated the lyrics of Anti-Hero, it’s not the type of song I’m in the mood for at the moment.
Three hours later, Taylor suprised us with seven more songs in the “3am Edition”. Like everyone else, I was shocked. I knew there was going to be a “chaotic suprise” after the release but had no inclination that it would be more songs.
The first I listened to from the 3am Edition was Dear Reader because I liked the title. My favorite 3am songs are The Great War and Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve.
This album impressed me with it’s electronic sounds, vocals, and lyrics. I will be listening to it on repeat for a while, and with this many songs, I doubt I will ever get tired of hearing them.
What are your favorite Midnights songs?
