It’s been two years since I started my first NaNoWriMo project in 2020, called Dragon Tamer. It was a dystopian fantasy with magical kids punished for their powers, which took inspiration from the current events around the time and books I’d been reading.
I’ve since completed two and a half drafts of Dragon Tamer, but recently set it aside to focus on poetry and this year’s project.
Writing Dragon Tamer taught me so much about myself and about writing. I’ve changed in many ways since then. I hope that the experiences I’ve had will inform my writing on this new project.
My plan is to write 1,667 words a day for the next month, starting on Tuesday. I will try to get as much done in the mornings as I can, but will most likely end up doing a lot of writing at night.
I haven’t planned this story out as much as I did Dragon Tamer…. like at all. With Dragon Tamer, I think I had a spreadsheet with what happened in each scene. I hope to have a general idea of where I want the plot to go in this project by tommorrow.
I’m much busier than I was last time I did NaNoWriMo. I was in quarintine then so I literally had nothing else to do with my time. This may be a challenge but I don’t expect it to be too much trouble as long as I focus.
I will give you a weekly writing update at the end of each week with a word count and summary of what I wrote that week.
I am so excited for this oppurtunity to compete in NaNoWriMo again! If you are doing NaNo too this year, let me know and I’d love to talk about it.
Have a great week!!!
