I missed the first weekly update because I was busy last Tuesday. So, tonight, I’ll be telling you all about my writing adventures from the past two weeks.
The first few days were suprisingly easy. It almost felt like cheating. A few days in the first week I surpassed my goal of 1,667 by over a hundred words.
This week hasn’t been quite as easy, but it isn’t as hard as the second week was the first time I did NaNoWriMo, in 2020.
I’ve been writing mostly in the mornings. I write the first eight hundred words from six to seven, take a break to fix tea, and then write the rest. I’ve found that the second hour is usually easier than the first. Likely, this is in part due to the tea, but also I’ve gotten up more momentum at that point.
I’ve written later than that about three times this week. The first time, it was because I overslept after staying out late at a ball and the second time I had to get ready for church in the morning. Today, I wrote from seven in the evening until nine because I was sick yesterday and slept until ten in the morning.
I always listen to music while I write. Some days, I play my evermore cd on my cd player in my bedroom, but most of the time, I play music on my phone and listen with my bluetooth earphones. Some songs that have especially inspired this project are lovely by Billie Eilish ft. Khalid and I Know The End by Phoebe Bridgers. I’ve also been listening to a lot of Big Red Machine while writing.
I created most of the characters and their backstories in the first week. While I prefer to have the structure and clarity of an outline, it’s been fun discovering my story as I go along. The end and overall story arc has become clearer this week. I keep suprising myself with new ideas for characters’ motivations and new ways the story could go. It’s a really exciting experience.
Tonight, I hit the 25,000 word mark. Halfway done with my second novel, I’m proud of how far I’ve come. I can’t wait to see where the rest of the story takes me and the characters. But for now, I’ll see you again in a week or so!
