Yesterday marked the end of the third week of NaNoWriMo. I’ve only got one week and around ten thousand words left to finish my project!
Although this week’s writing went by slower than the first couple of weeks, it wasn’t as hard as I expected the third week to be. With Thanksgiving break, I’ve been able to write for longer to reach my word count goals.
The hardest part was keeping the plot moving along. A few days ago, I had reached the point of the story that I had planned on happening closer to the end of November, so I had to brainstorm a new end for the book. I threw in a hostage situation and it’s definitely helped my pacing.
Because I’ve been exceeding my word count goal, I will likely be finishing the 50,000 word total goal a few days sooner than November 30. In that case, I don’t plan on stopping there. I’ll just end up with a longer novel than I’d planned for.
I am feeling more excited about this project than I ever was about Dragon Tamer, my 2020 NaNoWriMo project. I think its because I wasn’t putting any pressure on it to be anything more than it was. I didn’t set out thinking this project was going to create any big change in the world and I wasn’t thinking about how people would react to anything when I wrote it.
This is a novel I’m writing for myself. The characters and plot are inspired by inside jokes with my friends or things I saw on the sidewalk years ago. It came from an idea about telepathy and time-travel and has spiraled into this beautiful, exciting story I feel so passionate about. I might never even edit or publish it. I might write something better than it in the future, but for now, I’m just happy to be working on it.
