Happy New Year!
This month, I drew much more than I’ve been doing in a long while. One of my NY Resolutions was not to be on my computer or kindle fire on Sundays. This freed up extra time for my drawing.
I’ve been practicing colored pencil drawings, which is something I haven’t delved into much before. I’ve also been practicing showing emotion.
Enjoy!
This drawing took a few hours to complete and by the end, my hands were covered with ink. It was all worth, though. As I drew the drawing, I began to get ideas of what the character was taking a picture of. The shadows were fun to experiment with.
In this drawing, I first draw it out in pencil, went over in ink, and then colored it in with my Crayola® colored pencils. The bright colors were enjoyable to work with and you’ll see more of that in my later drawings.
In this drawing, I tried to capture a sense of adventure and whimsy, as well as indulge in the flowers. It’s winter, and we all need a little reminder that spring is coming. 🙂
This character was inspired by one of the main characters in a short story. I wrote this month. By the time I finished the first draft, she wasn’t living in a trailer park. Still, drawing her helped me understand a little more about who she is.
This is an example of me experimenting with manga. I tried to capture the sense of longing or excitement in coming home.
In this piece of fan art, I captured a darker side of Harry Potter. I tried to show how his robes (being the chosen one) were a bit too big for him. Everyone expected more of him than he could give.
I made this drawing in my Writing & Illustration class. We were practicing drawing expressions. Thank you to my friend, Grace, for helping me draw the dog.
The man in my drawing looks a little lovesick, in my opinion. One of the great things about art, though, is that everyone interprets it differently. Let me know in the comments, what you think he is feeling/thinking.
This is another example of showing expression in character profiles. The woman here looks a bit worried.
I have many fond memories of pushing friends on a tire swing. The branches didn’t turn out how I planned, but now I think it contributed to the theme of playfulness.
This drawing was inspired by memories of letting caterpillars crawl on my hands. Thank you to my twin sis, Mary Catherine, for taking pictures of my hands, so I could copy them.
I hope you enjoyed seeing my drawings.
What have you been drawing lately? What are you capturing in your art?
